The Test Tomorrow

So, we have finally come down to test day! I know you guys are probably nervous, but just relax and go over ALL of your notes. You need to know about THE KEY PLAYERS during the war and don't worry about insignificant things like how many soldiers entered the war. Don't worry so much about FACTS. You NEED to worry about the SIGNIFICANCE of things. Make sure you go over your notes because most likely it will be on the test.

I will be in the classroom ten to eight, so if you want to come in a little early to study THATS OKAY! Also, if you put SPEAKEASY in bold letters on the top of your test, I will give you a bonus point. Its to commend you for coming to this site and taking the time to go over material. Don't tell anyone! This is strictly just for YOU!

By the way, I had to take away your privilege of posting comments. I wanted you guys to talk about RELEVANT material. Sigh. Why do students always engage in foolishness? Anywho, good luck tomorrow.

Talk to you later,
Mrs. Simmons

YOU CAN POST COMMENTS!

You can finally post comments! I finally got this thing to work. SO, you can go back and add some comments if you want. Please do NOT post any inappropriate things or derogatory statements! DON'T post negative comments about other people! If you guys do, then I will have to shut it down. As you know, this has happened to me before...in Brooklyn. LOL. You guys are too much.

Do the Homework!

I just wanted to say you guys did an excellent job today. You guys were engaged and having great discussions. Germany was obviously the best dressed, so thank you for that. I have to say that Kelly, overall had the best costume! lol. You guys are too much.

Make sure you guys complete the homework tonight. You know, the sheet with the maps of Europe? I will be checking to see if it was complete in the morning, so MAKE SURE ITS DONE!

Your Paragraph...

If you guys are having trouble citing your sources for the paragraph, this site will help you:

Don't stress too much about the paragraph. Just make sure you have proof to whatever it is that you are saying! For example, if you are going to say that Johnny's eyes are green, make sure you PROVE that his eyes are green either by quotes, statistics or by a reference (textbook, movie etc...). Also, make sure each paragraph is in chronological order. For example, in the first paragraph write about something that happened in March of 1917. In the second paragraph write about something that happened in 1918 etc...

Oh by the way, I marked your comic strips and boy did some of them make me laugh! You guys are so funny. I will hand them back on Monday.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend,
Mrs. Simmons

BLIO READER

So, I was thinking how a lot of you hate reading from the textbook. Perhaps that is why half of you did not complete your homework? Well, I did some research and I found the COOLEST thing. No seriously, it is amazing. It is called Blio-reader and it is a software that actually READS YOUR TEXTBOOKS TO YOU! Isn't that crazy? The pictures will come to life, someone is reading to you...what more could you ask for? You could be doing other things will this thing reads to you. Here is the site:

Seriously CHECK IT OUT!!

The Grades!!!!!

So, I just finished marking your tests and NOBODY failed! You all passed. I was actually impressed. The lowest marks were 8/15 and the highest mark (Mathew Lam) was 13/15. You guys did a great job.

TIPS:

1) Make sure you go over your quiz/test BEFORE you hand it in. About three of you missed questions.
2) Make sure you look at the WORDING of the question. One question said: "The War Measures Act gave the Canadian government the right to execute or suspend the rights of citizens."

A lot of you put true, but it was false. They didn't have the right to EXECUTE anyone! Lol, you guys are too much.

Again, you guys did amazing for not studying. This site will help you do great on your next test, so check it out:

You Guys Were Great!

I just wanted to say that you guys were great today! Most of you guys became great teachers and you guys stayed on task...for the most part (lol). Again, I was really impressed with Arzish and Furqan. You two were really good at expressing yourselves with little help from your notes. You really know how to summarize!

Im going to put up the clip that we saw in class today about the halifax explosion. If you didn't get good notes, it will be here for you to see again. Remember, the test is next Friday and you are going to need all the help you can get!

Here is the clip:

Talk to you later,
Shadia

P.S. I am still searching for a great site on weapons of the war. If anyone has any suggestions let me know, if not I will post my own this Friday.

Passchendaele and EXTRA INFO!

This is what Passchendaele looked like before the war and after the war!

When you guys are creating your comic strips, make sure you follow instructions: INCORPORATE THE HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE!  Also, make sure you guys do research on what the soldiers wore (just for accuracy). Some of you were asking about what the French Algerians wore. This is what they looked like. They had pants that looked liked MC Hammer's!

You guys will do great!

The Marks

I marked your homework earlier on today and I noticed some of you are a little bit lazy! Like honestly, a sentence for each box? I felt bad giving you guys low marks, but you had to show me that you at least tried. I don't ever want to give you guys marks like that again. It's not hard to do a little work after school. I know you guys have a lot of things to do, but don't loose easy marks like that. Okay? If you didn't get a good mark DON'T PANIC, this is only worth like 1% of your mark. So, even if you failed, it won't have an impact on your final mark!!!

I would like to commend all people that did do well like: Sammy, Harry, Zahra, Daniel, Arzish, Anaisha, Hasan and others. You guys wrote a lot of detail and PUT EFFORT INTO IT!

I won't be at school tomorrow, because I have to go to a meeting. SO, Ill see you guys Monday. I leave you with this classic clip:

A New Battle

Watch this clip and jot down some adjectives that may describe it. We will take it up on Thursday! Oh, make sure you look at older posts!

I see...

I see...only Kelly visited the blog! That's okay, my feelings are not hurt. At least someone took the time to just check it out! You guys are too much!

I loved how you guys made your trenches today! I was so happy that you guys curved it and made the front and support line...Too bad the smoke wasn't thick, yellow-greenish and poisonous! No I don't ever wish that, but imagine? Imagine how those soldiers felt?

Im so happy to see that you guys are participating like: Anuj, Joshua, Sammy, Hassan, Surina and a few others! It's really going to help you guys when report cards roll around. Don't be afraid to participate in class or say the wrong thing!

Speaking of which... Hasan, all countries have different medals awarded for different things: Britain has the "Victoria Cross"; U.S has the "Medal of Honour" and Germany has the "Iron Cross." You can see them at the top!

Anywho, I'll see you guys tomorrow and remember PARTICIPATE...EVEN ON THIS BLOG!

Welcome

Welcome to our classroom blog. This blog is designed for YOU, so you can become more aquatinted with class material. It is just an extension of information you already know! You can take polls, play World War One games, watch videos or even leave a comment.

The Great War definitely changed the course of history in terms of modern warfare. Also, in one battle, Canada truly became a nation. Try to remember the SIGNIFICANCE of the war and its battles! You know, the "So What?"

Lastly, If you have time, check out this game about World War One. You have to  basically decide your own destiny. Take the poll at the bottom and tell me if you liked it or even if you hated it. Here is the link:
